Akwa United Chairman, Supporters Club Renew Ties Ahead Promotion Push

Paul Bassey, Chairman of Akwa United, recently met with the club’s Supporters Club and affirmed his commitment to deepen the partnership ahead of the new season’s push for promotion.

During the courtesy visit, Bassey pledged full backing from the club’s management, emphasising that success must be a collective effort. He encouraged fans to continue standing by the team, especially in tighter moments.

The gesture comes at a crucial moment for Akwa United, who are targeting a return to the top flight and believe that a united front between administrators, players, and supporters will be a key to achieving that ambition.
Editorial

We view this reconnection between club leadership and supporters as a smart, even necessary, move. In football, results alone don’t win loyalty or do. When the chairman actively reaches out to fans, it fosters a sense of shared responsibility and mutual belief.
Promotion campaigns are rarely smooth. Slumps, controversies, and pressure are inevitable. It’s during these stretches that clubs with strong unity endure longer. By renewing this bond publicly, Bassey is not just signalling optimism; he’s building resilience into the club culture.
Supporters too have a role. In return for the chairman’s outreach, they must turn up, vocalize encouragement, and act as a "12th man." The noise, presence, and energy they bring can tilt close games in Akwa United’s favour.
We expect this renewed alliance will yield dividends not just in results, but in morale, identity, and sustainability. When leadership and fans move together, the club’s goals become truly shared.
